When you are Blue Ivy Carter—17-month-old daughter to Jay-Z and Beyoncé, youngest known owner of Tom Ford heels, and mentor apparent to North West—there are certain privileges permitted for you that are simply not allowed for anybody else. For example, you can touch Beyoncé mid-concert without being asked to leave the arena. You can opt to hang out in a $1 million suite below the Barclays Center rather listen to your father perform. Verbal skills and mood depending, you can refuse a spontaneous duet with Beyoncé on a daily basis without being shamed by the Internet. And as Beyoncé told a reporter recently, you do not have to feign interest in her latest project for an extended period of time—even when she is screening it for you herself.
While promoting her animated debut, Epic, overseas in Australia, Beyoncé was characteristically charming with the press—revealing that she “hate[s] to hear [her]self speak” and that she bawled while viewing The Lion King when pregnant. Her daughter, however, was not as bowled over by her mother’s animated venture, even though Beyoncé took on the project specifically her young daughter and subsequently viewed it privately for Blue. “She’s still young, so her attention span is about 20 minutes,” Beyoncé explained, reporting that Blue only lasted through a few scenes but seemed to recognize her mother’s voice. “[S]he did see it and she was like, ‘Wait a minute, that’s you!’ So I think she figured it out.” Speaking for Blue Ivy, Beyoncé adorably added, “She seemed to be impressed.”
When she is not screening films for her toddler or fulfilling her contractual obligations with the universe to be fierce, Beyoncé dotes on her daughter—as evidenced by recent photos that the singer uploaded to her Tumblr account, showing Blue Ivy with a Queen Bey–worthy crown and Blue poking a finger at her mother’s smiling face.
